YFC Wales: Bringing Young Farmers Across Wales Together By Tomos Charles At BCC IT, we are extremely proud to have a close relationship with several charities. These organisations provide invaluable services to their local communities and often to the wider population. In our effort to give back, we are excited to announce a sponsored walk on June 30th from Porthgain to Abereiddy and back. Mid-month we held a charity draw to determine the beneficiary of this event, and we are pleased to announce that the winner is YFC Wales! The Wales Federation of Young Farmers Clubs (Wales YFC or Cffi Cymru) is a voluntary youth organisation operating bilingually throughout rural Wales. They provide opportunities for over 5,000 young people aged 10 to 28, who are part of a network of 138 YFC clubs and twelve county federations. YFC Wales aims to support young individuals in becoming successful farmers, confident contributors, and responsible citizens through a variety of activities. These activities include competitions, rural affairs, courses, and more. Competitions such as public speaking, stock judging, eisteddfod, sports, crafts, and agricultural skills offer young farmers invaluable opportunities to showcase their talents, learn new skills, and connect with peers. YFC Wales also hosts numerous events for its members and the public. These include the YFC Eisteddfod, which allows members to perform in both English and Welsh in various competitions such as singing, recitation, sketches, and mimes. The YFC Eisteddfod is the only bilingual Eisteddfod of its kind in Wales, providing a platform for both English and Welsh speakers to highlight their skills and talents. Additionally, YFC Wales holds agricultural events like the Winter Fair, featuring direct entry competitions such as the baby beef and prime lamb producer competitions. These events are excellent opportunities for young farmers to demonstrate their stockmanship skills and gain valuable insights from their peers in the agricultural sector. YFC Wales also plays a prominent role at the Royal Welsh Show, a highlight of the year for many YFC members. The event is packed with competitions such as shearing, dancing, stock judging, flower arranging, and more. The YFC Centre becomes a hub of activity, with members, supporters, and the public engaging in the action. We are thrilled to support Wales YFC with this charity walk and look forward to future charitable events for YFC and other organisations.
